Sprilla

Located in the Cove System, Sprilla was a planet inhabited by the Mastacors. Two-thirds of the planet was covered in land and the atmosphere had a higher oxygen content than Earth’s. It was located so close to its sister planet, Marren, that the planets would cross orbits twice a year. One-hundred and fifty years ago, during one of these crossings, the planets collided. Sprilla was knocked out of its orbit and within a few months, collided with Cove, the star it once orbited. Sprilla was completely consumed and all lifeforms still on the planet perished.

Author’s Note:

When I was a kid I remember hearing about how Neptune and Pluto’s orbits would cross and there was a big debate as to which was the ninth planet and should the order of the planets be changed. I always wondered what would happen if the two collided. That memory never left my mind and I went to it with the back story for the war between the Skelks and the Mastacors, and the creation of the Star Shadow.

The name Sprilla came out of nowhere, and I cannot explain how it  popped into my head. I do think it is a cool name for a planet. Short and it has a very natural sound to it. The reader won’t be tripping over it.
