Roy Bunts

Lieutenant Bunts is in his early fifties with medium length salt and pepper hair.  His forearms are large and his fingers thick and beaten up from years of fixing things. His most striking feature is his blue eyes, which stand out like beams of light. He has three silver stars pinned to his uniform. Lieutenant Bunts is in charge of engineering. He is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Hidden Sun, ranging from the four large engines on the back of the ship, to a single pixel on a random hallway video wall.

Author’s Note:

Roy Bunts is another character that fills out the crew of the Hidden Sun before the encounter with the Ptevos. After having Brandon work in the medical center, I needed a way to get him to the bridge. Roy Bunts was the perfect tool to not only get him there, but to foreshadow some of the events that would take place soon after.

I remember having baseball on the brain while writing Brandon Sparks and the Hidden Sun, hence the name Bunts.

Roy Bunts was known across the galaxy as an excellent engineer. I remember having a conversation with Quarl, the computer of the Lingcod 3 about Roy. At the time, he was just an assistant to the assistant of engineering. Well, Quarl’s system started acting up and his voice was coming out an octave lower than normal. This didn’t seem to bother anyone in engineering, except for Roy. He had never worked on Quarl’s system before, but in his spare time he figured out what was wrong. It took him over two months to do so, but he got it fixed.
