Kenneth Strange

Ken Strange grew up on a farm in Oklahoma. He joined the Air Force at the age of eighteen and within a year found himself aboard the Brick, a large military freighter used for moving cargo between Earth’s numerous space stations throughout the universe. Here he befriended Lieutenant Rexford Smoke, who would one day become his captain aboard the Clipper. When he was on leave, he would head back to Earth and help his parents on their farm.

Lieutenant Strange is thin with wavy brown hair and blue eyes. He is 5′11″ tall and good looking.

Author’s Note:

The decision to create Lieutenant Strange and the other bridge members of the Hidden Sun was important because it solidified the number of people and the positions needed to fly the Hidden Sun. I had seen countless Sci-Fi shows and some starships had a two member crew, while others had over ten people on the bridge! This seemed like an awful lot of people to coordinate. It made sense to me that you only needed four people plus the ship’s computer, who would handle everything else.  One person would fly the ship, another handle the navigation and communication duties, one to handle weapons and defense, and of course, one captain.

While we don’t see much of the original bridge crew other than Captain Smoke, their unnamed presence in the introduction of Brandon Sparks and the Hidden Sun, along with their defeat at the hands of General Zarafat with Brandon as a witness, strengthens the idea of the four person unit.

I came up with Lieutenant Ken Strange’s name on a whim. Strange sounded like a cool last name and it stuck.

Charlie’s Note:

Lieutenant Strange was always a hard worker. with my relationship with V, i used to hear stories about Captain Smoke’s team and Ken Strange was the go-getter. He was the first to report in the morning and usually worked an extra hour or so after his shift was over. A true loyalist to Captain Smoke.
